What Should I Do First After Arriving in Ghana?

After arrival in Ghana...

  • Get some cedis! If you haven't gotten any Ghanaian currency while traveling, definitely get some cedis upon arrival in Ghana. Remember, big bills like $50 and $100 yield the best exchange rates.

  • Establish a network/phone connection. Whether you established international roaming, have immediate plans to get your Ghana card & SIM card, or plan to scavenge for Wi-Fi from hotels, stores, etc., it is important to establish a data/phone plan when you first arrive in Ghana, so you can make calls, order rides, etc.

  • Download rideshare apps. How will you get around once you land? Moreover, how will you get to your lodging from the airport? It's best to download different rideshare apps that work in Ghana so that you can always quickly get to your destination, without the added stress of negotiation. Here are a few: Bolt, Uber, Yango.
